題圖上啟動界面UI故意做成了隨機大小寫的樣子,突出個SAN值不穩定。
其實2024年我一共做了兩個項目。一個是《三相奇談》,還一個比較小的《掙脫:十三號站點》。後者文本體量不大,僅有大概15萬字的樣子吧好像。雖然如此,畢竟是本人以工作室名義出道後的第三個項目,好歹掰扯兩句吧。
如題所述,這個項目其實不涉及什麼本地化敘事設計級的複雜操作,所以沒有太多可說的。正文開始前就先湊點廢話打打廣告吧。
1、“Lingomancy話術研”是什麼?
全稱Lingomancy Research,“當代話術研究所”,是個主要做遊戲本地化的單人工作室,專長是專指高級敘事的水土不服。無論你構思多花哨劍法多複雜,肯定有辦法讓你所有的心血在新的語言環境裡照樣成立。
2、既然是單人,為什麼叫工作室?
因為個人產能畢竟有限。我產能大概屬於異常級別的高,可畢竟還是一個人,人力終有窮近時。要可持續發展,往後必須得往工作室形態發展,所以現在就先把名頭定下來。
3、既然方向定了,為什麼不招人呢?
因為廣義的文學翻譯(遊戲本地化正是其中的子領域之一)這個事情很麻煩,非常麻煩,極端麻煩。它不像數理化一樣,固定的輸入和固定的公式必然得到固定的輸出、只要把公式講一講就可以理論上無限複製粘貼擴大化。這行更像是拍畫畫——我想畫個什麼東西,怎麼構圖、怎麼配色、怎麼分鏡,這些全都有非常詳細的想法,而且【很難言傳】。伺候過甲方爸爸的朋友們都知道那些虛無縹緲純靠站著幹說來傳達的想法有多難get到。要合作首先需要雙方有相當程度的磨合和同步率,就像郢人和匠石,這倆是一對兒,少了誰都不行。我沒有現成的搭檔,也承受不起從零開始磨合的成本(像知名漫畫家僱一堆助理邊用邊淘汰),現在就全一個人扛著,走一步看一步吧。
4、現在工作室都有哪些作品?
出道前有兩部練手作品,都是漢英向本地化。《真探》(CaseCracker)和《大多數》(Nobody – The Turnaround)。因為經驗和信心不足,最終效果馬馬虎虎。經驗攢差不多之後正是出道,現有三部作品,分別是《沉沒意志》(Minds Beneath Us)、《三相奇談》(Threefold Recital)、《掙脫:十三號站點》(Escape: Site 13)。
英漢向的本地化我也能做,就是總找不著項目。每年那麼多海外遊戲都帶中文(雖然質量參差不齊吧),也不知道都走什麼渠道做的漢化,反正市面上看不見招標啥的。如果您是發行商,歡迎跟我聯繫。要獨立完成的英漢本地化項目樣品是沒有的,原因如前所述。但是我做英漢小說翻譯,作品有N本《碟形世界》系列,包括讀客的《廢柴巫師》六部曲最後兩部(譯稿被改得比較多,本人不太承認),以及無出版社、免費網上發佈的若干部,如《草芥神》(Small Gods)、《亂離人》(Interesting Times)等。同屬廣義的文學翻譯,我覺得可以有相當的參考價值。
5、工作室主要接什麼樣的項目?
畢竟這是個營生。只要價格談妥了,什麼樣的項目都能做。要論主觀傾向的話,首選是【強敘事類】作品。敘事越精巧、人物性格越鮮明就越能顯出本工作室的價值。卡牌、MOBA之類文本以規則描述為主的類型它就不需要什麼高級思考和文筆能力,我來做固然沒障礙,但是不值當,找誰做都差不多。
另外望周知:翻譯和寫作本質上是一樣的,是個人風格非常鮮明的創作過程。所以【文本和譯者之間是否兼容】是個很重要的考量因素。你讓海明威寫言情小說他肯定寫不好,哪怕照著瓊瑤的底子搬也不是那麼個味兒。為客戶負責,談項目之初我會建議先選兩三千字的文本樣品(建議挑您最得意、難度最高的部分)做個免費試譯。雙方都感覺找到了舒適區再繼續往後談。
6、有什麼項目是不接的嗎?
四大名著為背景設定的項目總的來說不想接。為什麼?因為這類項目的主創容易有“敘事偷懶癌”。什麼意思?就是默認【所有玩家都對背景故事滾瓜爛熟】,一路三級跳敘事。比如西遊記直接從女兒國開篇,三國憑空冒出來個牛逼到逆天的角色也不解釋為什麼就一句“常山趙子龍”,如此這般。這也是為什麼小說遊戲改編電影十部裡面九部雷的根本原因——主創進入了半瞎狀態而不自知,默認所有觀眾都跟自己一樣已經把原作翻了個底兒掉,只要跳躍著挑十幾二十個經典場面來個boss rush就完了、中間連接部分全靠觀眾自己腦補。結果觀眾完全不知原著長啥樣,滿地差評。如果這是翻譯小說、你給夠錢,我不介意額外原創幾萬字把你偷懶省掉的部分全補上。但是遊戲跟小說不一樣,所有語言版本之間文本數量是【嚴格一比一的關係】。我想額外插文本也沒地兒放。不能也,非不為也。與其接了項目再出齟齬,莫不如趁早繞道,大家都免了尷尬。點名四大名著因為這是首屈一指的重災區。《山海經》在中國玩家之間都比較冷門的東西(大部分人除了書名跟屈指可數的幾個經典怪物名之外啥也不知道),雖然也是硬核傳統文化,一般卻也不會有類似的情況,因為作者潛意識明白TA寫的東西不具備群眾基礎、不能敘事偷懶。
7、一般來說合作流程是什麼樣的?
為最終質量著想,建議打足提前量。具體打多少?可以按照每月處理10萬字原文來估摸一下,最後再加一個月。20萬字就留3個月、50萬字就留6個月,以此類推。這是比較保險的估計,如有需要還可以再趕一趕。開始項目之前需要您提供遊戲的【大體完整版】(可以糙但是要全)從頭到尾細細玩兩到三遍,跑遍所有支線和結局。考慮到效率,建議搭配個簡單粗暴的官方作弊器。謎題能跳、數值能鎖、哪怕對話中也能隨時存讀檔(方便快速S/L遍歷所有分支)即可。如果實在沒有完整流程版本,開個會從頭到尾把要點細講一遍也能湊合。
正式開工前花半個月把遊戲吃透,給術語、敘事設計、照應安排打好譜。開工後每月【前半月】翻譯那十萬字,月中提交,下半個月一方面客戶把新提交的文本實裝進去出個新build、另一方面我用上一個build來給前一批提交過的文本做階段性LQA。全部完工後再花半個月把整合在一起的完整build來一遍最終LQA,完事。
本地化翻譯是個需要大量琢磨和打磨的過程,有時候可能還需要跟開發團隊商量修改遊戲的局部敘事結構。建議按照上文所述多留一點時間,跟開發的最後階段同步進行。您做個遊戲用三年,最後給本地化留了一個月,這現實嗎?絕大多數翻譯公司大概都會拍胸脯跟您打包票說絕對現實。不分青紅皂白、不走心、10個人拆成10塊同時開工、最後稀裡糊塗拼起來就交差確實能趕出來。就算你發現有哪裡不妥,要大改也來不及了,湊合發了吧,發完再說。然後發完就漸漸沒下文了。這兩年可能稍微好一點(?),前些年各路手遊一窩蜂搶著出海的時候本地化服務提供商裡到處都是這樣的,有多少爹都不夠被坑的。
我不是那樣的人,也不希望您給那樣的人制造機會。

《掙脫:十三號站點》這個項目本地化敘事設計上最大的特點就是……
它沒有本地化敘事設計。
所謂“本地化敘事設計”是我自己編的詞兒,專指在跨語言、跨文化的過程中對敘事手法和結構進行局部重新設計,以彌合文學範式、戲劇表演習慣上的【不匹配】之處。像《三相奇談》裡為了保住敘詭設計和各種笑話,在執行細節上做了大量手腳。《掙脫》則不一樣。本作植根於SCP宇宙,而SCP宇宙是典型的【無國界文化】,雖然有多重語言版本但是基本上互為鏡像,都是同一回事兒。隨便你說個啥啥啥,哪怕津巴布韋和特立尼達和多巴哥的資深SCP粉也一看就懂。所以它根本【不需要】額外的敘事設計。
翻譯也好、本地化也好,歸根結底是按需安排具體規程。有這麼好的底子,為啥不讓它原樣發光?所以本項目大體上就是比較直接的“翻譯”。
在廣義的文學領域,所謂直接的翻譯也不是簡單的符號轉換。翻譯是門語言藝術,它講究的是說學逗唱。一個角色說了句臺詞,要傳達的不光是TA說了什麼,更要考慮到怎麼說的、什麼場合說的、有什麼潛臺詞、說完之後讓觀眾有什麼感想。體現在表層,就是用一種語言去重現另一種語言的文風。
《掙脫》的文風很有意思,可以說是重度精分。一方面大量的SCP內容需要冷冰冰的科學報告味兒,另一方面大量的宗教內容需要邪教主味兒,另外還有若干個性迥異的角色如巴伯(特色發癲)、安德魯(感情欠缺)、Irantu(機器腔)等。
科學報告味兒比如:
