據報道，他身體不適已有一段時間，並且還在與糖尿病和肥胖症作鬥爭，其它疾病還包括敗血症，感染引發了全身的極端反應，下呼吸道感染和心傳導阻滯。
羅彼·考特拉尼因在《哈利波特》系列電影傳奇中扮演混血巨人魯伯·海格而成名。他還主演過電影《範海辛》、《十二羅漢》等其他一些影片，並曾在1994年至1996年連續三年獲得英國電影學院獎最佳男主角獎。
當地時間2022年10月14日，羅彼·考特拉尼在位於蘇格蘭拉爾伯特的家附近的醫院裡辭世，享年72歲。
