据报道，他身体不适已有一段时间，并且还在与糖尿病和肥胖症作斗争，其它疾病还包括败血症，感染引发了全身的极端反应，下呼吸道感染和心传导阻滞。
罗彼·考特拉尼因在《哈利波特》系列电影传奇中扮演混血巨人鲁伯·海格而成名。他还主演过电影《范海辛》、《十二罗汉》等其他一些影片，并曾在1994年至1996年连续三年获得英国电影学院奖最佳男主角奖。
当地时间2022年10月14日，罗彼·考特拉尼在位于苏格兰拉尔伯特的家附近的医院里辞世，享年72岁。
