© Since its official full release in 2016, Darkest Dungeon has received a plethora of accolades and achievements that highlight just how special this game was. In 2016 alone, developer Red Hook Studios sold over a million copies of the game across all platforms, suggesting that the demand for the game was huge right from the start. The game hits another huge milestone this year as sales continue to grow even more. In a development update for Darkest Dungeon 2, it was announced that the original game had just passed “an astonishing milestone of 6 million copies sold” and an additional line stated that the game had sold 16 million copies in total, including DLC. As of September 2021, sales of the base game have reached 5 million units. That’s almost a million since the game’s release in 2016, so it’s no surprise that a year later, another million were sold, bringing the number of sales to six. Considering that mod support for Darkest Dungeon is still very active, interest in the game remains relatively high. Add to that the fact that the game has introduced and correctly implemented a lot of unique gameplay mechanics, and the gameplay is still unbeatable.
