© No Man’s Sky has gotten stronger and stronger over the past few years, and it looks like the next big update is just around the corner. It’s hard to talk about No Man’s Sky without mentioning its disastrous state at launch, but the general consensus around the game at the time of writing is that it ultimately met and exceeded expectations with major updates. No Man’s Sky will be the launch game for PS VR2 and will release worldwide on February 22, 2023, after which it will be available on all modern platforms. Thanks to a major 4.0 update, Waypoint, the game has arrived on the Switch, albeit with some limitations compared to other platforms. Hello Games founder Sean Murray usually communicates major updates to No Man’s Sky using emoji. A man of few words, his Twitter feed contains a lot of emoji, but mostly in response to great screenshots from No Man’s Sky or other news related to it. The teaser tweets for which he is famous are usually offline, containing only one emoji, which is somehow related to the next update. This time around, Sean Murray posted a snowflake emoji on Twitter, sending the community into a frenzy of conjecture and excitement. Sean Murray’s hints are usually very cryptic, and while there are many plausible theories, it’s almost impossible to know what the next update might contain. One of No Man’s Sky’s most requested features is the many biomes on each planet, including polar ice caps, but more conservative theories about the next update involve a new expedition or weather system update. Examples of Sean’s previous teasers are an orange (a rather cryptic clue hinting at the Origins update) and a compass (for the No Man’s Sky Waypoint 4.0 update). The timing of Sean Murray’s teaser tweet could mean that the next major update for No Man’s Sky will arrive with the launch of PS VR2, but the time between his tweets and the update doesn’t always match, so fans should manage their expectations accordingly and not get caught up in some wild speculation with by the more idealistic members of the community. No Man’s Sky’s latest major update has left some fans disappointed, but we hope this will be fixed with what Hello Games has in store for the game. No Man’s Sky is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
