Quinton Flynn
© It’s no secret that Metal Gear Solid 5 turned out to be completely different from what Hideo Kojima imagined it to be. A complex and hectic development cycle has resulted in many ideas, both story and gameplay, being shelved. Of course, some ideas were shelved not because of limitations, but because of creative decisions, and recently Kojima shed light on one of them. Chico is a character that was introduced in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and later appeared in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. And although it was revealed in The Phantom Pain that he died in the crash of Mother Base, in the early script of the game he was supposed to return – and in a completely different role. On a recent episode of his Brain Structure podcast (via Reddit), Kojima spoke about this, revealing that in The Phantom Pain, Chiko would have been “obsessed with killing” and that his character would have been similar to that of Nikita Cevotarevich in The Deer Hunter. played by Christopher Walken – that is, he would go down a very dark path, to put it mildly. Of course, this has already been reported in the official Metal Gear Solid 5 art book, which showed concept art of early ideas for Chico, who will have a heavily scarred face and darker appearance, wear a crimson cloak and be equipped with a variety of weapons. Kojima revealed that the idea was ultimately shelved because it “didn’t fit into the overall structure” of the game. Metal Gear Solid 5 has a lot of things missing from the game that fans would love to see, and I’m sure this idea has joined that ever-growing list.
