电视动画《火影忍者》改编自日本漫画家岸本齐史的同名漫画，2002年10月3日在东京电视台系列全6局、岐阜放送首播，共220话；第二季《火影忍者疾风传》于2007年2月15日－2017年3月23日在东京电视台播出，共500话；累计全720话。
The Sharingan is one of the most powerful Kekkei Genkai to exist in the world of Naruto. Introduced quite early into the series with Kakashi Hatake, this eye was said to be the copy wheel eye, meaning it holds the power to copy all forms of ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu, and see through them, unless they are Kekkei Genkai or Hiden abilities. This eye also grants the user a tremendous advantage in battle as it can see through even the fastest and the most intricate of movements, allowing them to react accordingly. As most fans know, this eye is exclusive to those with the Uchiha bloodline and currently, very few of its users are alive. That said, every user of the Sharingan holds tremendous potential as this eye carries limitless powers. The Sharingan's power is greatly dependent on pain and misery, which makes it quite a tragic power to wield. When someone experiences a great emotional shock, most likely sad or one full of desperation, This eye is often triggered into awakening. As it does awaken, it also starts to consume the user with hatred which is born out of the loss of love or the need to protect. As the hatred grows, so does the power of this eye. What's even more interesting is that the Sharingan can turn even stronger when the user witnesses the loss of a loved one. This triggers the evolution of the Sharingan into the Mangekyo Sharingan. The Mangekyo Sharingan is an advanced form of the Sharingan that only a few characters in the series have tapped into. First awakened by Indra Otsutsuki, this eye is known to feed on the hatred inside the user which is born out of the loss of love. Madara Uchiha and Izuna Uchiha were the first members of their clan to awaken this eye and they both did it by killing their best friends. Similarly, Itachi Uchiha awakened this eye when he witnessed Shisui's death, while Shisui himself lost a loved one in the Third Great Ninja War, which gave him access to this eye. Sasuke, after hearing the truth about Itachi and feeling his loss, managed to tap into this eye as well. Evidently, the Mangekyo Sharingan is a very tragic power that often comes at a huge price. However, the powers that it offers to the user are also quite immense. Being the evolutionary form of the Sharingan, it is a given that the Mangekyo Sharingan is much stronger. This eye significantly boosts the fighting prowess of those who wield it and allows them to fight on a much higher level. As it feeds on the hatred, this eye makes the user stronger the more hatred they possess in their hearts. Whereas the Sharingan can notice intricate movements to a certain degree, the Mangekyo Sharingan takes it one step further and allows the user to keep track of even smaller and faster movements with ease. Apart from making the user generally much stronger and giving them better visual prowess, this eye also grants them a set of abilities that is unique to their eyes. This was first seen with Itachi Uchiha, who was able to use the black flames of Amaterasu with his right Mangekyo Sharingan, while his left eye gave him the ability to use a powerful Genjutsu that let him control space-time freely, called Tsukuyomi. Similarly, Sasuke Uchiha's Mangekyo Sharingan holds the power of the black flames of Amaterasu in one eye, while the other lets him manipulate the same flames and give them shape using a jutsu called Kagutsuchi. There are quite a few other overpowered Mangekyo Sharingan abilities to have appeared in the story as well which hold great significance to the overall plot. For instance, Kakashi Hatake's Kamui allowed him to warp anything at a distance to the dimension of Kamui within an instant. Meanwhile, Obito Uchiha could use the other half of the Kamui and apply it to his own body to send it to the dimension, making it seem as if he's intangible. Evidently, the Mangekyo Sharingan grants tremendous abilities to its users which can only be countered by a very small percentage of shinobi alive. Having this eye already means that the user ranks among the strongest characters alive. While the various abilities that the Mangekyo Sharingan offers to the user are quite overpowered and already make it one of the strongest Kekkei Genkai in the series, they are certainly not its strongest asset. The strongest ability of the Mangekyo Sharingan is the Susanoo. Debuting during Sasuke's fight against Itachi, fans saw the Susanoo manifest for the very first time when the latter used it to counter Kirin. The Susanoo is a massive structure of chakra created around the user's body that acts on their behalf. This massive humanoid of chakra acts as the strongest form of offense and defense for a Mangekyo Sharingan user. It holds the power to cut through several mountains and its defense is strong enough to take attacks as powerful as Tailed Beast Bombs with minimal damage. The Susanoo grows at quite a slow rate and it is quite difficult to manifest its full form. Usually, the user can only access the skeletal version or the semi-humanoid version of the Susanoo with this eye. To unleash the power of the full body Susanoo, the Mangekyo Sharingan needs to be evolved into an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. While this eye is certainly quite powerful and makes the user stand alongside the very strongest in the Naruto universe, it also comes at a huge cost. Making use of the Mangekyo Sharingan causes tremendous pain in every single fiber of the body, as described by Sasuke Uchiha himself. What's more, using this eye repeatedly eventually causes permanent blindness. As such, the Mangekyo Sharingan is quite a double-edged sword. Not only does it engulf the user in hatred but it also leads to permanent blindness which can only be avoided with a Sharingan transplant, giving rise to the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
