EA has just admitted that 60 percent of those who lost franchise cloud save data on Madden 23 will not be able to recover it at all, as the studio predicts that only 40 percent of this lost data is recoverable. This comes after a server outage left players unable to log in from December 28 to 29. Anyone who attempted to play during this time may now have lost their franchise saves forever. In an updated blog post on the issue, EA estimates that "40 percent of leagues [will] be recovered", with others unable to be restored. Players are, understandably, disappointed with the news. They are also particularly frustrated that the support team had previously encouraged them to log in during the initial server issues, causing them to potentially lose all of their franchise progress. Related: I Miss Sports Games With Attitude "First off, we are sorry that this happened," opens the new post on the issue. "We know how important your franchises are to you and we are actively working on a fix to restore some files via a backup as soon as possible. However, not all affected leagues can be restored." The post continues: "The team is currently projecting around 40 percent of leagues to be recovered. We will communicate an updated timeline next week around the potential restoration of save files from a backup." Even before players hear if their save files are safe, they're being encouraged to start a new franchise now that the mode is running again. It's therefore pretty likely that a lot of fans are going to get the disappointing news that their data couldn't be saved. The latest statement makes no mention of any compensation being sent to those who have lost their data. However, with so many demands for refunds in the replies, it's possible that the issue will be addressed once the initial data loss has been fully realised.
