John Carpenter, best known for Halloween and The Thing might have just accidentally revealed that a Dead Space movie is in the works, although one that has nothing to do with him. Last year, Carpenter mentioned in an interview with AV Club that he'd be interested in making a movie adaptation of Dead Space, saying, "That would make a real great movie. I could do that", before going on to talk about his love of the series, including the "action one" that nobody else liked. Related: It's Weird That Isaac Doesn't Say A Word In The Dead Space Launch Trailer Although many hoped that Carpenter would then be attached to a Dead Space movie, he's now clarified in an interview with Variety that isn't the case, noting that he was just speaking hypothetically last time about being a fan of the series. In the process, however, Carpenter might have just let it slip that a Dead Space movie is being worked on, even if it's not with him at the helm. Carpenter said, "No, no, no. I can’t believe how that spread. I’m a big video game fan, so I played all the games. I was down looking at the new digital cameras, the RED, and happened to mention to them that I would love to do a “Dead Space” film. That just went around, and everybody said, “Oh, when are you gonna do it?” I’m not gonna do it. I think they already have another director involved. And they haven’t asked me to do it. So until someone asks me, I wouldn’t do it. But there’s a new version of the “Dead Space” video game coming out in January, and I’m there." Although it's exciting to take this as an instant confirmation that a Dead Space movie is being worked on, it's worth giving Carpenter the benefit of the doubt here. The way he speaks about it is very speculative, and more like he's commenting on a possibility than a certainty.
