When it comes to extensions, CD Projekt RED is usually pretty generous. Not only that there are usually a number of free DLCs, but also the full extensions have it all. Heart of Stone, the first expansion to The Witcher 3, lasted around 15 hours and Blood & Wine even around 25. With Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which is scheduled for release this year, CD Projekt RED could break this mark again. At least it is certain that the developers are investing a lot of money in the development. According to an interview with a Polish magazine, Phantom Liberty is set to be at least the “biggest expansion in the studio’s history in terms of budget.” It remains to be seen whether this will also apply to the scope. So far, CD Projekt RED has remained silent about the content of the expansion. The work on the add-on is said to be going according to plan so far, and you “feel comfortable with the current status”. That’s reassuring after the chaos surrounding the main game release. We remember: Cyberpunk 2077 came to market with many technical problems, with the versions for older consoles being close to unplayability, which led to Sony kicking the game from the Playstation Store. In the meantime, the game has been brought up to a good standard with a number of patches and thanks to the Netflix series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the game even experienced something of a second spring. Phantom Liberty is scheduled for release this year for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and will give the game a new story in a new section of Night City. Keanu Reeves will return as Johnny Silverhand, alongside Idris Elba as Solomon Reed. We can only hope that the majority of the budget hasn’t gone to the two actors, but that something has actually flowed into the game.
