One of the most interesting parts of Cal Kestis’ character in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was whether he would turn to the dark side of the Force. There were never any clear signs that he would, though the tone of the game was decidedly darker than a lot of Star Wars installments where the protagonist takes a dramatic turn. Cal has been a Jedi refugee since he was a Padawan now, and with the title for Fallen Order’s sequel being Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it will be interesting to see what choices he has to make. Cal is five years older in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and besides the details shared in the prequel novel Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars, it is uncertain how much has changed or what he has gone through. If the prequel novel’s details are life-changing for Cal they will surely be discussed in the sequel anyway, but even smaller events could have an interesting impact. Cal has had a tattoo on the inside of his right wrist since his refuge on Bracca, for example, which is a bit of visual storytelling itself. In the midst of other customization options, though, it would be incredible if players could customize Cal’s tattoo. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has already revealed that customization will include actual outfits, rather than simply altering similar ponchos and applying different color palettes to them. One such option is a bomber jacket that was not visually revealed, but was confirmed as loot that Cal can retrieve from a chest on Koboh. Likewise, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Deluxe edition and standard pre-orders come with their own alternate cosmetics that dress Cal like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was surprising then to hear that Cal will also reportedly have new customizable hairstyles as a cosmetic option, with one hairstyle that apparently gives him a bandana tied around his head. Because there will also be customization for BD-1 as well as Cal’s lightsaber and blaster, there will be a ton of options available to rectify how few there were in Fallen Order. It might make customization in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor oversaturated, but it would be terrific if players could also take Cal’s tattoo and customize it between a number of preset designs. Cal’s tattoo seems to signify his previous employment as a scrapper on Bracca, and it would make sense if it needed to remain uncustomizable for that reason, though customization could be pushed even further with new tattoos, too. It would be fun to be able to put tattoos on both of Cal’s arms in order to give him full sleeves, though the original tattoo itself might not even be fully visible with most outfits Cal can equip. Still, any bit of customization added is appreciated and Survivor has seemingly gone well out of its way to give players a breadth of satisfying options already. True, limitless character customization will probably never be on the table, given Cal Kestis' place as his own character, but Respawn Entertainment has done well to strike a middle ground that Star Wars fans can enjoy. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues to hide a lot of content, including features that players now know about, and therefore anything could possibly be included in the full launch this April.
